Party Poker Review - Freerolls at PartyPoker.com & PartyPoker.net

Party Poker.netThis is a review of Party Poker that's specifically aimed at people interested in freerolls and free poker games on the internet. There are plenty of reviews of PartyPoker.com and PartyPoker.net on the web, but none of them are aimed specifically at players interested in freebies. They're unanimous that Party is possibly the best place to play online, for reasons of player volume and for how soft the games tend to be. But freeroll players might have different criteria in mind when selecting a room, and we try to address some of those criteria here.

Not Very Many Freerolls

Free Party PokerThe first observation that a Party Poker review for freerollers has to make is that Party doesn't really offer a lot of freerolls, especially when compared to some of the other online poker rooms on the internet who are eager to recruit new players. If you were managing the largest poker room online, you might also have the same strategy that Party does. When you have achieved market dominance, you don't have to give away a lot of freebies in order to attract new players.

Party Poker does offer a couple of neat freerolls for new players though. One of them is a freeroll JUST for new players, that all new players are invited to. They also offer real money players for newbies only, which is another neat way of letting new players get acclimated to how online poker works. These are relatively recent additions to Party's offerings, but they're welcome and innovative additions.

Free Entry to a Party Poker Million Qualifier

The exciting freeroll that's available from PartyPoker currently is the free entry to the Party Poker Million satellite tourney. It's a $34 value, but if you're good, and you're lucky, you could parlay that into a really big cash prize for yourself.

The Party Poker Million is a limit holdem tournament, and it's held on a cruise that leaves on March 12, 2006. This is the 5th Party Poker Million tournament.

More Observations About Free Poker at Party Poker

PartyPoker.net is the "online poker school" aspect of Party Poker, and that's where you can play free poker, or poker for play money. There are plenty of players taking advantage of this at Party, and there's no reason you can't have a lot of fun playing for the play money there for the rest of your life. We know lots of players who prefer not to risk real money online, and bragging rights and a big chip stack of play money can have psychological rewards.

If you do make a real money deposit at Party Poker, you can receive one of 3 sign up bonus offers which will add free money to your bankroll to play with:

Party Poker Software

Party Poker's software is NOT Mac-compatible, so don't try to download it if you're a Mac user.

Their software isn't big, at 2.72MB, but it is quality poker software, functional if not fancy. The look and feel of the software hasn't changed much since Party Poker opened its doors in 2001, but it's still okay to look and functional. The software does have a few drawbacks:

  • You don't get to choose an avatar. Your avatar is determined by where you sit at the table.
  • The lobby doesn't update as fast as the tables fill up, so sometimes it's frustrating to try to sit down at a game that's already full, even though in the lobby it looks like 8 seats are still available.
  • The stats functionality is extremely limited compared to other poker rooms online. You can't see how many players are seeing the flop at a table from the lobby, which is useful and common information at most other cardrooms on the internet now.

The note-taking and buddy program functionality is fine, and the software runs quick. You're also able to create private tables for your friends, which is not something that's available at most other poker rooms online.

More Things to Like About Party Poker

Possibly the most important aspect of a poker room to consider is how good the games are there. And usually when a poker player is talking about a game being good, they mean there are a lot of fish playing. Playing at a place with a lot of poor players is good for experienced and new players. Experienced players can make more profit from the large pool of new players, and the new players can keep up because the ratio of poor players to good players is good for them.

Other Party Poker Tourneys

Party does have a wide variety of tourneys available, even if they don't have many freerolls. If you're a low limit player with a small bankroll that you'd like to parlay into a bigger bankroll, the new Party Poker step tournaments offer a great way to play your way up the ladder and get a lot of experience at a very low cost. You can buy into sub-qualifiers then win your way up to a point where you're competing for a few $grand, which is nice.

There are also frequent low buy-in qualifiers to the larger tournaments that Party Poker makes available. You can almost always find a qualifier for a big tournament with a buy-in of just $5 + $1 or $10 + $1. If you're playing on a freeroller's budget, then this kind of thing is just the kind of thing you're looking.

Conclusion

Party Poker has a lot of perks for freerollers, in spite of their lack of freerolls. A smart player with a small budget can work his way up through the ranks at Party because there is frankly a lot of opportunity there.

Party also offers all kinds of free poker games played with play money. They have more players at these free tables than any other cardoom online, so they're worth checking out if that's your cup of tea.
